«Data Nebula» 2020 - Public commission for the University of Reims Champagne-Ardennes - University Institute of Technology (IUT) of Châlons-en-Champagne.
L 9 m x W 4.50 m x H 4 m / stainless steel, white powder-coated finish, QR code (sound composition)
The sculpture DATA NEBULA takes the form of a "wave," a reference to the surrounding waterways and the data analysis graphs used in computer science studies at the University (computer engineering training / cloud data management). The sound composition defines the form of the artwork.
This wireframe drawing in space is displayed like a "wave," revealing, in its spectrographic form, a sound composition created from recordings made on-site (within the University): (whispered words, the building's pulsations and noises, footsteps, doors, and sounds captured in the immediate surroundings, birdsong, wind, rain, and the lapping of the river). For this sculpture project, the sound composition, created specifically for this project, could be defined as a library of flows, a "melodic encyclopedia of languages and soundscapes."
The DATA NEBULA sound composition, which gives the sculpture its form, can be listened to using a smartphone by scanning a QR code located at the building's entrance. Thus, the "melody of the sculpture" will be audible to users/listeners if they wish, in silence...
