"Acoustic Cells" - 1994 - Exhibition FRAC Bretagne - Rennes -
3 cells of 2.50 x 1,25 x 1.25 m each, wooden structure, acoustic insulation (fire-retardant rock wool), cement plaster, audio equipment: 3 A/R tape recorders, 2 (×3) loudspeakers, 3 audio tapes (endless cassettes)
1 - minimal external noise (reflection, reverberation, echo...) The volume of the space corresponds to the minimum volume required in acoustics for sound of equal intensity (with its external reference) to constitute an envelope for the body, just like walls. By isolating these sounds, an amplification (of detail) is carried out in each of the cells. This operation of extracting sound from its overall environment: traffic noise, footsteps..., by focusing, constitutes a perceptual experience on the street.
2 - exhibition room
3 - heartbeats and breathing.
