«Serinettes» - 2015 - Whirlwindsong Exhibition, CAC des Adhémar, Montélimar
Set of four sculptures: Pine trunks, componium, perforated ribbon, 250 cm diameter, 14 cm diameter
This set of sculptures, placed against the wall, resembles serinette rolls (a musical instrument used in the 18th century to teach short melodies to songbirds). These pine trunks, blackened with ink, reveal the tree's growth rings, like sound waves. Each branch's origin was perforated at the point of the undulation so that it could be printed and transcribed into a musical score. This transfer process allowed for the translation of these perforations onto perforated cardboard, which can be played on a diatonic componium. The music of the trees is audible through the mechanical action of the instrument.
