The works produced and presented by Cécile Le Talec for the exhibition ‘L’expédition mélodique’ at Tour de Bridiers clearly echo the tapestry ‘Panoramique polyphonique’ (Grand prix 2011). This woven piece is presented in the form of a circular sound structure on which a ‘panoramic’ spectrographic sound landscape is featured, inside of which a musical composition of birdsong and whistled words can be heard.
The circular rhythm of this musical composition echoes the defensive architecture of the Tour de Bridiers: its closed circular interior space also amplifies certain sounds (the wind as it blows is recorded by a microphone fixed to the flagpole on the top of the tower). The supple material of the tapestry also reflects that of the ‘Tapis symphonique’, but also in its modularity it evokes the Salon de Musique, a ‘pliable’ structure and a ‘listening booth’ that can be modelled 45 different ways. There is a subtle physical link between the two works as well as some formal play between them, which might be likened to a musical variation.
The ‘contextual’ accuracy of ‘L’expédition mélodique #1’ resides in this physical and symbolic engagement of two spaces and two creative moments, reminding us that an artistic project stems from a journey and from encounters, capturing moments and drawing from situations to develop in coherence. The choice of Tour de Bridiers as an exhibition venue further reinforces this logic: the art reveals itself along with the space.
